G1 Carb needle settings - new carb

i have a g1 and it has the original carb. took it off and it looks pretty beat up. got a new one and wanted to know what i need to adjust before install. i'm a mechanical guy, but more of a carpenter than mechanic. i see there are two adjustment screws on the carb and i have read some settings on here, but i don't know which screw is which. there is one running horizontal with a spring on it centered on the air intake, and one next to that that is vertical with no spring and a hole in the center.

could someone please point me in the right direction for these settings.
