there is a ser number on the block,its on the flywheel side not the clutch side,its a cured section of the block, and likey dirty like mine was ,just keep rubbing the gunk will come off. here are some pic's of my bearings both sides,the camera sucks but you get the idea

OK found out mine is an 82 the dealer told me..
there is a snap ring on the outside of the bearing. Does that mean the bearing can come out without splitting the motor??
I really appreciate your help..

Incidentally, I pm'd g1uncman for parts, but no replies..

i can't see it comeing out very easy, i had to use a bearing spreader/separator to pull them off the crank
