Why would you want a hotter plug?

Just get an NGK factory heat range plug. A hotter plug won't do anything but cause too much heat in the combustion chamber. I got this from the NGK site. Very educational.... http://www.ngksparkplugs.ca/tech-info-spark-plugs.cfm

"The insulator nose length is the distance from the firing tip of the insulator to the point where insulator meets the metal shell. Since the insulator tip is the hottest part of the spark plug, the tip temperature is a primary factor in pre-ignition and fouling.

Whether the spark plugs are fitted in a lawnmower, boat, or a race car, the spark plug tip temperature must remain between 500C-850°C. If the tip temperature is lower than 500°C, the insulator area surrounding the centre electrode will not be hot enough to burn off carbon and combustion chamber deposits.

These accumulated deposits can result in spark plug fouling leading to misfire. If the tip temperature is higher than 850°C the spark plug will overheat which may cause the ceramic around the centre electrode to blister and the electrodes to melt. This may lead to pre-ignition/detonation and expensive engine damage. In identical spark plug types, the difference from one heat range to the next is the ability to remove approximately 70°C to 100°C from the combustion chamber. A projected style spark plug firing tip temperature is increased by 10°C to 20°C."

Great info!!! One more question......I got air in and air out....Im getting fuel...and Im getting spark. However, how do I know if I have enough volts from my coil and if it is firing consistently. If for some reason it is not then that would explain the fouling of the plug.... Cause when I pull the plug it has fuel on it.... If it had spark then the fuel should have ignited....Right?

Ignition coils are typically easy to replace, so if one is suspect I usually just replace it. I have never had any luck using resistance type tests with a coil that still fires. Sometimes the coil will test within spec, but doesn't perform on the vehicle. Sometimes you have to get them hot for them to fail. Testing them while hot after running would be my only suggestion. Do a standard spark test "after" the cart has run for a while, see if there is no spark then. If not, replace coil. Even if you have spark, it could be intermittently weak.

It looks original so for $30 might as well change it.... I put a new plug in and tightened wires on coil (just in case) and it seems to start a little better but it kinda spits and spudders as I speed up or down. At full throttle seems to run ok. Any ideas?

If it spits and sputters it could be the ignition signal breaking up. I'd try the coil and see what happens. Sometimes the old wires can get corroded or broken and loose signal.

If it goes away, it was the coil. If it stays the same, look to the CDI.

If that's not it, get a new carb.

Again, these engines aren't that complicated. You have to start at the bottom, with the basics, then work your way up. Unfortunately sometimes you just have to get new parts. Luckily, the G1 isn't obsolete yet and parts aren't that expensive.
