Default Loud Exhaust system question

Greeting on this 88 Degree Arizona afternoon, unbelievable even for here! On my G16, everything is stock and I believe the exhaust is some kind of aftermarket unrestricted system. It is black about 16" high, 12" in diameter and, attaches directly to the exhaust manifold, sits vertically and sounds like it has no baffling at all and I would prefer a little less noise when driving around. It doesn't look home made, can't find one anywhere but my question is does anyone know what this is and how and why it should be that loud. Its almost as if it has straight pipe exhaust only with the echoing effect of the hollow round metal barrel. Is there any way to quiet this down, I have priced new muffllers and they are pretty expensive. I can live with it but was just curious is anyone has seen this before. Thanks in advance, Billy

That muffler looks 100% stock to me. The YDRA muffler is a little quieter, but the heatshield cracks all the time, so i cant recommend it either.

That's the one. I got underneath and saw why it was making so much noise. Someone took a chisel or something and tore the bottom of the muffler away to make it louder. I put some of the insulation they put in dirt bike mufflers and it made a big difference. Probably won't last too long but now I know. Thanks all for the help. I'll try to send some of this 87 degree weather east. It is supposed to continue for at least another week. Thanks again, Billy

Have you considered removing it and taking it to a muffler shop and have them weld it back up if you dont have the resources.

Repack it,weld up the case, and alls' good.I'm not sure if those mufflers are "Packed" or if they just use baffles for noise-cancelling.The 2-stroke Ez-Gos had baffles only, never had a 4-stroke cart muffler opened up.Anyone with a welder can close it up for you easy enough,if you don't have the stuff yourself. My Cousins live in and around Pheonix, they are always complaining how hot it is.I asked my Cousin Sherie once how she ever survived here. She said "we have winter coats in Az. too"I asked if it would be a "Windbreaker"
