G1 slower top speed after torque spring?
I installed a red torque spring in my G1 and its much better climbing hills like I wanted. The problem is I lost about 5 to 6 mph on top end gps and it won't even spin in gravel. Is this normal or did I do something wrong? Thanks

That spring in a 2 stroke cart is only going to work correctly with cut secondary sheaves. It works well on the 4 stroke carts with stock clutches. Right now it is holding the cart in low gear and not letting it shift completely into high gear and robbing you of top end speed. All I did with my G1 was installed a shim (.425) behind the stock spring. It had a ton of low end torque and did not sacrifice any speed.

Well that's not good! Is there any mod I can do besides taking the spring out to make it shift out? To the primary? Thanks

I had the red spring and cut secondary sheaves....my cart topped out at 29mph with the stock g1 engine and almost 38 mph with the enticer setup. There are different red springs though. I got mine from Plowman's. I've heard that if you buy one from Ebay it might be a good one, might not. Some of the springs out there are way too stiff. I had a white one I got from Ebay and it reacted like you are describing. Had tons of low gear, but had a hard time shifting out. You may have gotten one of those.
The G1 clutches are not adjustable. If you have the older style with the silver alum cover, you can lighten the weights up and that will change the shift out a little, but not much. Have you disassembled your primary to check the condition? Maybe you are having an issue in there? |

I found another thread on here about the spring. I didn't take the snap ring in the back off like he said to. I wonder if that has the spring more preloaded? I have cleaned the primary.

When you remove the snap ring you need to replace it with the splined spacer. I'm assuming you don't have the splined spacer?

That would be a problem. Take the snap ring off, use the spacer only. That's definitely too much preload. How did you get it together? LOL

It wasn't easy lol I didn't know until I read that post here because the instructions that came with it didn't say anything about removing the snap ring.

Took the snap ring out and it works great! No more belt slip climbing and got all my top speed back! Thanks for all your help!
