Default first golf cart

I just bought a 1998 g16 Yamaha body tires & seats excellent shape brand new. no rust at all on the frame. the steering has play in it steering wheel moves about 2 in back & forth. tops out about 13-14 mph looks all stock climbs hills no prob with 475 lbs of passengers brakes work fine. engine doesn't smoke at all no oil leaks. have to run 1/2 choke for about 4 minutes when cold or it misses. does this look like the stock motor set up for Yamaha thanks for any insight on where to start on the steering problem & what vendor has the best price on parts

Welcome! The pic won't open. From the sound of things,it needs a tune-up,and a carb-cleaning.They are cold-blooded in winter,My Wifes' 16 will fire and take off in summer, but once it gets down near 60,it needs the choke,in really cold weather it needs starting-fluid occasionally. The G16 is a good cart with decent power.Unhook the governor and add a lift with 22"-tires and it will go almost anywhere.

Like Mike said. Put a torque spring on a good running stock G16 with 22's and it will go a lot of places. You could do more clutch work, but it isn't absolutely necessary.

Clean cart

Ask a yamaha dealer for a G-28 Umax secondary clutch spring. It is like $14.

Some aftermarket springs are too stiff and cut down on top speed. You really can't go wrong with OEM parts. Replace the ramp shoes while it's apart, and the sheaves if they are worn.

I've climbed some pretty steep hills with a stock engine with the stock clutches. If you have a torque spring, it will just not upshift as quick, basically holding in low gear longer. If you have a stock engine it should make it fine, just don't buy the white spring, it's too stiff.
