Need Yamaha G2 / G9 info
Asking the Yamaha G2 / G9 Owners, Is the G9 a good Candidate for a restoration?
Are parts fairly available? Are these easy to work on or are they a Pain in the A$$ around every corner? There is a non running Yamaha G9 for sale about 40 min away from me. I really like the look of the G9 So I contacted the seller and agreed to buy it. I believe the price is right at $250. Don't have much info yet, but from the pics I can tell it has a D&D motor and controller and it is lifted. She is rough and the plan is too over the next year or so do a full frame up Restoration, with some Mods to make it a fun little runner. Thank you for any input. Brian |

Re: Need Yamaha G2 / G9 info
Ton of searching, lots of reading....
Looks like the G9 is way more popular in Gas, not much in Electric. With this being a clean slate as long as the frame is good and it has the 19 spline motor, this may be a A/C - Lithium project. Picking it up tonight... Cant wait to see it in person. |

Its a 1995 G9 with the 19 spline rear.
So it has a new home here in my garage. I will not start tearing into it until fall. For now lots of Planning.... |

Re: Need Yamaha G2 / G9 info
So this cart is lifted, with what looks like a home made or block lift. 2 plates in the front to lower the A-arms, then shock extenders front and rear.
I looked at the service manual and the pictures did not help. and the front suspension diagram does not show them as parts. I want to return it to stock. On the front A-arms, Did they attach directly to the frame? Or are there plates much like what is there just a shorter version. Sorry no pics will add some later if anyone actually comments back. |

Re: Need Yamaha G2 / G9 info
cant beat the older series cart, my G1 is still running fine, but the G19 I bought almost new has went thru 3 controllers, 1 charger and headaches constantly buy the old G1 resistor cart keeps chugging along, modern series solid state controller would be a great upgrade, if you wan to give up on keeping it stock

Re: Need Yamaha G2 / G9 info
For every benefit you get with modern tech, there are just as many drawbacks.
This cart came with an new unused 2012 model Alltrax 4845 controller and 8.3hp D$D Motor. The original Wire harness is there but rough. and the throttle potentiometer is missing. My plan so far is to start with the Frame and Suspension Repair battery tray area. Sand blast then Paint or Powder coat. Not sure if I want to keep it lifted or drop it back to stock. Once done with frame I will move to paint and body. Where the seat pillars are I want to replace them with heavier steel to make a roll bar with the seat back incorporated into it. after that make a new wiring harness, get new potentiometer, Heavy duty solenoid, reversing contact, get her all wired up with existing Alltrax controller and D$D motor. Then to make sure my wife knows how much of an A$$hole I am. I will order 4 new 48V Lithium drop ins. Gonna spend quite a bit more $$$ on this cart then I should. But it will be a really cool fun project. |

Re: Need Yamaha G2 / G9 info
The front A arms will mount right back to the holes where the plates are bolted, same with the front and rear shock mounts.
It is probably one of the $55.00 4" lift kits from ebay. They work well and you can run 22" tires on them. Any who... The G2/G9 body style are very solid carts and many are still going strong. Also a lot of accessories still available for them. we like pictures!! |

Re: Need Yamaha G2 / G9 info
Some more pics.
The front shocks are extended to 14.5" and rear to 17" A bit of a hack job but looks like it worked. The front blocks are definitely home made from Aluminum. The rust on the frame is all surface. It looks worse since I power washed it. The battery trays are rotted pretty good and I will be Fabricating an entire new Battery Box area anyway due to changing it around for Lithium. |

Re: Need Yamaha G2 / G9 info
Actually that lift doesn't look that bad, I've seen much much worse. I think I'd use steel instead of aluminum on the front. The rear looks like exhaust pipe or conduit, might want some square tube there. It looks like it held up decently over the years. How does it steer?
