starter solenoid staying up
Hi!
I'm new to the site. My neighbor's 92 G9 ah model yamaha starter/generator has been replaced as well as the starter solenoid. It went bad. Now, the solenoid won't drop out when you let off the accellerator. I checked the voltage reg and it is pulsing correctly when you tap the accellerator but when hooked up, it won't drop out... any clues? Paul |

Re: starter solenoid staying up
Did you use a starter-solenoid for the solenoid? If so,its' stuck. You need to use a constant-duty solenoid, such as one for a snow-plow.The automotive starter-solenoids are intermittent-duty.If this is not the case, your pedal-switch may be defective or just hung-up.Pull up the floor-mat,remove the access-panel and the switch is at the base of the pedal, soak it with WD-40 or similar, and also lube the pedal-pivots.Hope this helps.

Re: starter solenoid staying up
I run the numbers for him off the old one. solenoid is oem from buggies unlimited. 586 series.
I checked the throttle cables thru governor to throttle linkage and appears fine. getting a pulse from the volt reg to the solenoid to pick it up and that works, it just stays up... |

Re: starter solenoid staying up
I'm wondering if he got the motor and battery wires backward?

Re: starter solenoid staying up
Did he just get it,and it had the problem when he got it?Previous owner may have wired it wrong.Go to the Yamaha-Gas section and look up wiring-diagrams and compare the wiring.
