dead spot in accelerator

My 1990 EZgo Marathon will cut off if pedal is depressed all the way. Been doing this for 8 years now. I taped a piece of 3"pvc to underside of pedal to act as a stop and solved problem. It runs 17.5 mph according to gps. I guess if it ain't broke, don't fix it. I am curious though, what could be the cause?

just curious, is the cart a resistor or controller cart?

Look under the seat. Front middle, there will be a set of copper resistor studs on a board that a wiper arm moves across when you press the pedal. There will also be a box that resembles a toaster in the middle with wires on top that run to the wiper board and the motor. This will mean it is a resistor cart. If there is none of this and a box with smaller wires running to it, it is a controller cart. I'm no expert, but I believe a 90 model marathon is a resistor cart.

The first image is the resistor coil housing that will be in the middle. Next is the wiper board. Last is a controller if it has one instead of resistors.

Throttle linkage goes under a dust cover,looks nothing like picture.Controller,maybe? Cart is at my beach house,can't look at it now.

If you have a black plastic cover in the center toward the rear of the battery compartment then you have a solid state speed control = you have a potentiometer out of adjustment.

At 20+ yrs old the best plan of attack is to get a replacement potentiometer for your Ezgo Marathon and remove the pipe from the gas pedal.
