Battery terminal Grease? What's that stuff called?
About a month or so ago...you know...a while back....over a fortnight ago.......I purchased some newbie 2GA. wires from ScottyB and wrenched 'em onto my 48-V EZ-GO. Well, these wires are really nice!!
Now, after being on my cart for approximately the above time period, I have about three battery terminals that I have to clean. But....when I initially put these on, of course, I cleaned the terminals very well and after I tightened 'em up, I applied a good slathering of lithium grease to all of the terminals. So, now I have 3 of the terminals that are "oozing" this green lithium "stuff" out from between where the wire meets the battery terminal. You know...the bottom part.. (If I'm clear) Not between the nut and the wire....but the wire and the battery. So....suggestions as to what to do to JUST MAKE IT STOP!!! |

I'm not sure if a lithium grease is the right stuff to use on battery terminals.
I used to use Vaseline, but I've switched to NO-OX-ID A-Special: http://www.sanchem.com/electrical-co...lubricant.html |

Greasey mess, no thanks. If you have a shop service your cart, they will probably thank you too. We use "ZEP battery coat" sprays red, dries like a thick red clear coat, not tacky either.

I use the Deka above because we had cases in the shop. One tip I can offer is to apply it on every surface as you assemble not just spray the top after you are done... corrosion grows upsidedown as well as rightsideup and sometimes faster if not observed.
So clean and spray the post stud and base. Hold the cable end in the air and spray all sides and edges Put the cable and nut on the post, torque it down to specifications Repeat and when all done spray all posts and nuts again |

Re: Battery terminal Grease? What's that stuff called?
Strange that you mention this as while I was home I went work on an older Club Car that went dead over the winter. While I was expecting batteries that needed "perking" with an auto charger I also found a couple of lugs that had rotted off the cables. Oddly enough both of these terminals were covered in this really nasty grease like green goo.... I washed everything down with Brake Cleaner, wire brushed all battery terminals and used emery on the wire ends to make all bright and shiny again. Got the cart charging again and now my neighbor calls me the Golf Cart Whisper....
