That's not entirely correct.

A bigger speed control allows the motor to access more amperage. The motor will make additional torque with the increased amperage. There will not be a speed increase unless a lack of amperage is restricting the motor as in the case of too big a load or tire size.

If I went with the raptor motor, is it ok to run it on the stock controller before upgrading the controller? Or is that not suggested?

Phil, if you intend to get out in the mud and sand, I would NOT recommend the Raptor Motor.....its really strictly a SPEED motor, from what you describe your intended use, you are going to need something that will supply more TORQUE, than speed.

well yes....sort of.... I wouldn't call what I have done is OFF ROAD. Where I use my cart is FLAT AS A BOARD, and its all just dirt trails that are pretty smooth, as least for a dirt road! LOL

I came across a motor today known as Beast, 8 hp @1600 rpm. Is this the type of motor I should be looking at?
