Default About to buy an EZ GO - Questions

Looking at a few different electric EXGOs for my first cart and had a couple questions:

1. Are there better years as far as reliability/quality build?

2. Excuse my ignorance, but does it make any difference if the FWD/REV is a button on the dash vs the knob under the drivers seat?

Thank you!!

Yes and yes.
The 1996 and up TXT platform is the most common and most preferred Ezgo. Meaning there are more accessories and upgrades available for it. There were a few different drive systems offered on the TXT platform. Series drive and a few Sepex drive.
The difference between the various drive systems could be a long explanation but I'll keep it simple here; series drive is the workhorse system good for heavy loads, hills, and slower operations.
All the other drive systems (DCS,PDS,TXT48 ) fall into the Sepex drive system category and they are all NEV type carts best at transporting people. They are basically faster than a series cart and heat up under slow work and heavy loads unless seriously upgraded.

RXV's are the newest drive system.

They have f/r selection at key.

RXV's have the best stock speed and power.

Lots of aftermarket accessories, 1 factory power upgrade, no practical motor/controller upgrades (other than the 1 factory upgrade)

Superior performance on hills (stock compared to stock)
