Heat question

I have been reading some message threads about heat from their cart

After reading, I took the opportunity after a good drive to evaluate my cart.

I have a XCT400 with 2 gauge cables and new motor.

The XCT400 felt warm to the touch... I would assume the controller should be warm after a good drive? By no means would I consider it hot... is this normal for the controller to feel warm?

Would I benefit from adding a fan to the XCT400?

Do you have a non-contact thermometer that you can use to help determine the actual temp on the controller?

My Alltrax has a fan and it does come on when I run on a hot day. These controllers do generate heat and they get warm. Electronics tend to be more reliable when they are kept cool so a fan is a good idea. I think you can get an add on fan for your XCT.

If you add a fan to the XCT controller, do you have to take the selinoid bracket off to get it on?

How easy is it to add the fan with everything already hooked up?

The fan will lower the controller temp under extended loads and the lower temp will allow the control to sustain higher outputs longer before it goes into a thermally triggered cutback. Plus electronics just last longer when unwanted heat is removed.
If your installation utilized the Ezgo solenoid bracket you will have to remove the bracket to install the fan.

The install:
The fan plugs in and secures with 4 Phillips screws.
Be aware the screws use 2 size Phillips drivers. #2 in the base and #1 in the top.
The top screws can not be torqued down. Too much force & they will strip and you will have to find marginally larger screws for the top.
The top is slightly wider than needed. Squeeze the top with a finger on each side to align the hole when putting in the second top screw. Once released this will keep tension on both screws in place.
