Ezgo Unbalanced charge
Hi guys,
I'm new to this forum and to golf carts. We recently inherited a 1997 ezgo txt golf cart from a friend. Unfortunately the cart has been sitting for about a year in their garage and the batteries are very low. I bought a new DPI charger and upon initial test I got 2 red flashing lights on the charger indicating the charge on the battery's was too low for the charger. While I was at work yesterday they attempted to charge 2 batteries at a time to bring the batteries up to minimum voltage for the charger. When I stopped over yesterday the charger now reads one flashing red light indicating and Unbalanced Charge. My question is how do I "balance" the charge so that the charger can do its job. Do I simply continue to charge 2 batteries at a time for 30-60 min? The batteries are a little more than 2 years old. Thanks for any help. Chuck |

Re: Ezgo Unbalanced charge
Welcome to bgw
Do I simply continue to charge 2 batteries at a time for 30-60 min? Yes and check the individuals to see they all come close to the same 6.0 (min) reading The batteries are a little more than 2 years old. Unfortunately, I have seen new batteries ruined by such in attention. Even if they do come up and run the cart the storage capacity will be compromised and run time will be shorter than normal. Good Luck |

Re: Ezgo Unbalanced charge
Thanks for the help. My battery charger has a slow charge 2amp setting and a fast 35amp setting. I would think I should be using the 2amp setting, correct?
I took a volt meter to all the batteries and they are all close (5.94-6.0) to the 6.0 you mentioned. I'm still getting the unbalanced charge reading on my DPI charger. |

Re: Ezgo Unbalanced charge
Ok so I replaced the batteries and cables in my cart. I checked the voltage of all the batteries and they all read 6.25 or so. When I plugged in my DPI charger I am still getting the same single flashing red light. Do I need to reset the charger? Sorry for all the questions just new to carts. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks, Chuck |

Re: Ezgo Unbalanced charge
I should have mentioned that the batteries read full on the battery gauge on the cart. It drives fine forward and reverse. Could my new dpi charger be a lemon?

Re: Ezgo Unbalanced charge
since all the batteries were just out, lets check to see that the wiring to the charge port is correct & fuse is good. the white wire from the charge port should go to main pack B+, black wire from charge port to pack B-. then put your test meter probes in the terminals of the charge port to read voltage there.

Re: Ezgo Unbalanced charge
Thanks for the help. I think I may have found the problem? Is this the fuse you are referencing? The charge cables are installed correctly.
With this fuse corroded if I test the charge port what should I see on my meter? |

That looks like a reed switch. Bypass it like this.

Would this cause my charging issues?
