total charge 3 question..
This was an old charger i had, It would charge the pack then shut off. The other day i plugged it in and it started then shut down 6 hours later, I figured that was normal. The next morning i went to my shop and it was on again, Afraid of over charging new batteries i unplugged it and took it apart. The only thing i see is the broken connection in the pics. Could this cause the charger to not shut down?
Any help would be great. |

Re: total charge 3 question..
Search the archives and see if you can find a schematic. I suspect this was a component, not just a wire.
It also appears there is a wire up top that goes nowhere. Again, the schematic will tell you where this should go, if it's really broken, and not just the camera angle. |

Re: total charge 3 question..
Looking at the schematic, it appears this was an MOV, and shouldn't affect charger shutoff. It should be replaced, as it offers surge protection. The fact that it fried may mean you had a big surge, or lots of smaller surges, and may have damaged the circuit board.
Again, I'd see where the wire that appears to go nowhere should go. |

Re: total charge 3 question..
It may simply be a cloth sleeve to protect the smaller wire inside. There are two smaller wires that go close to the heatsink.

Re: total charge 3 question..
Thanks,
that wire is attached, I have been reading some posts. I got that charger from a campground down the road, It was plugged in when i got it. I'm thinking a new board may be in order. My batteries are new and i just don't want to chance it. thanks again |
