1998 EZGO PCX-954 Torque Issue
Hey everyone. I am new to the forum and fairly new to golf carts. I am looking for some input. I just bought a 1998 Ezgo Pcx-954. 36 volt system with one year old Trojans. Batteries are good and runs fine but it is an absolute dog on hills. I know it is a big cart and I am not looking for miracles or a huge expense. Just trying to identify a sensible approach to make some modest gains with torque. Any advice at all would be greatly appreciated.

Re: 1998 EZGO PCX-954 Torque Issue
if it is series drive((no run/tow switch) it is NOT a simple fix...if nothing is getting hot, robbing power then it gets costly...48v is gonna require a complete up grade of the electronics....scottyB at cartsunlimited has packages listed that will give you an idea about cost...

Re: 1998 EZGO PCX-954 Torque Issue
I had this cart and we converted it to 48v by adding 2 more 6v in the rear... think we added a angle iron frame to some free space area. We put a Alltrax controller and bigger solenoid in it to handle the 48v....this helped is quite a bit, adding more torque and speed. But it does not make it a rocket.... because of it's size.

Re: 1998 EZGO PCX-954 Torque Issue
That was kinda my fear. So upgrading cables, solonoid and controller will only help if those are limiting the current which would be indicated by heat. There is definitely room for two more batteries. Can I keep stock controller with a 48 volt conversion?

No - not unless it has been upgraded to a model that says 36-48v right on it.
