That was my initial reasoning for going 48V. There is local battery company that the owner is a friend of a friend. He refurbs Carts and said if the 36V parts were good he would be interested in them.

On the list when it stops raining here. I read you can test the motor with just a 12V car battery just to see if it turns. Is this a good enough test?
I am a car guy (actually truck) so I a researching on how to change the diff fluid also.

Drop the pan, clean & fill with 30 wt and replace.
1-2 oz STP oil treatment keeps an oil film on the top gears for cold starts.
