That is not right for an Alltrax XCT controller.

The pre-charge resistor is not used with an XCT. The filter capacitors are kept charged via J1 Pin-5 alone. In fact, XCT sometime misbehave if a pre-charge resistor is installed.

The diode (called a regen diode) is installed between the large terminals to prevent overvolting the XCT (and destroying it) if the solenoid de-energizes during regen braking. What happens is, with the battery pack disconnected by the solenoid, the voltage produced by the motor acting as a generator in the regen braking mode, skyrockets and a XCT48xxx has a max voltage rating of 62V, so bad things happen.

The XCT controls the solenoid, so about the only way to get the solenoid contacts to open while cart is in regen braking mode is to turn off the key or have a wiring failure, but the diode is cheap insurance.

Default New Solenoid Wiring need help

So if I read it right, just take the resistor off, and put the big diode on.

Second, I do have a 6A 600V diode [emoji106]

Leave the little diode alone, right?

Yep, leave the little diode as is on the small terminals.

Connect the big diode with the red wire attached to the large terminal that already has a red wire (going to J1 Pin-5) attached to it.

Thanks brother, I’ll try it and let you know something tomorrow.

Can you think of any good reason my last HD solenoid failed? Do I need to check anything else before I flip the switch back to run? It ran so good for about a year and then just kept “letting go” under load [emoji2369]. Then it completely failed.

Thanks man!

Lots of things can cause the solenoid to "let-go" under load.
What does the battery pack voltage drop to under load?
How many battery amps are being drawn when solenoid lets-go?
What is the KSI On voltage set for in the XCT?
What is the Under Voltage Set for in the XCT?

Do you have a data log saved that has a solenoid drop out in it?

How tall are your tires? (stock height is 18")

If you have any more solenoid problems, get a 48V MZJ400 super-duty solenoid (400A continuous/1000A peak). It works at 36V, 42V and 48V.

Stock height tires. I’ll try to get some more info on the battery voltages. It may be time for new batteries.
