Charger only turns on if Cart is in gear and pedal down

Hi, friend’s DS(97) charger only kicks on if key is in “on” position, in forward or reverse gear, and the throttle pedal is pushed down. Any ideas? Bad obc maybe. He isn’t close so trying to help via text. Thanks

Sounds like the Red Positive charge cable from the receptacle is on the controller side of the solenoid instead of the battery side. So by completing the "Positive Activation Circuit" that in turn completes the charge circuit and the charger comes on.

If that is the case, something is wrong with the OBC anyway as it should disable the solenoid by withholding the Negative supply while the charger is plugged in.

Somebody been playing around with wires on it?

Like Nole said, possible the red charge lead is on the wrong side of the solenoid.

Unplug the AC cord from the wall, Remove the cover on the charger, Check at the relay for 48V reaching the relay with the DC cord plugged into the cart. Black meter lead should be on the main pack negative on the cart.
If you have no voltage at the relay there is a problem on the positive charge lead. Connected wrong, damaged wire, etc.
If you have 48V at the relay, there may be a poor connection or the grey wire from the charge receptacle may be shorted to a positive source somewhere. Or the OBC may be faulty.

This is solved. There ended up being a frayed/partially broken wire from the charging receptacle. Not sure why engaging in gear and pushing pedal helped but the wire was replaced/spliced in and it is all back to normal.
