Default Pedal Box & ITS Waterproofing?

I live in South Florida, we have lots of mud and water during the summer times.

I have a 1997 Ezgo TXT with 6" lift.

The other day I went on a trial ride in my hood in the Ezgo. The water got deep quick, so I went to back out. Ended up getting stuck. My buddy pulled me out. It ran fine for about 5 mins. Then had no throttle response. Towed it back to house and waited a day for it to "dry out". Still no go.

I did some trouble shooting. And came to the conclusion it was the ITS itself. Ordered one on amazon, got it the next day. I dropped the pedal box from below. Rather then removing the floor mat. And good thing! When I opened the box it was FULL of water. Made it easier to dump it out. After letting that dry, I put the new ITS in and it worked great.

My question is, would the box be better off completely sealed or should I put large holes in the bottom to drain it faster. I see in the manual a part number for a "seal and bearing" (25853g01) But this seems to be the whole box itself. Cannot reference just the seal. I would also want to laser cut a rubber gasket for the lid.

Look for some input! TIA!

I'm curious on this as well. I encounter some water from time to time but have not had this issue. I did, however, notice while troubleshooting another issue that the box is the way you describe.

Surely some drains would help, but in the same breath having it sealed should be the most beneficial.
