The engine block/cylinder are one peice. You will need to take off the primary clutch fixed sheave (sorry,special tool needed) take the side cover off, then you can remove the cam/balancer/rod. Make shure you pry gently on the side case, leaving the cam and balancer in place. Make your own mark/marks on the balance/crank and cam so when you put it back togeather, it will be in correct timeing. The reason I offerd the rings is I'm 95 percent shure it is your problem. Hope the cylinder is not scored and a hone will clean it up or a bore job and oversized piston/ring set will be needed. Good luck.

wow! guess i will live with the smoke. i sure didnt know it was that much of a job. anyone live close to me that wants a little extra cash,( central ohio), and beer! LOL thanks guys for all the help.
