G1 $200 and Counting
I'm a Newbie on here, as a father son project we just bought a G1 Cart. Trying to find an engine for it. I live near Toronto, Ontario any idea where to start looking.

G1 is a two stroke motor so the rear end has no reverse gear. You need to stick with another 2 stroke in order to have a reverse. I have heard of snowmobile engines being used in them. What about the possibility of refurbishing the old motor? That would be a good F/S project?

Not sure about rebuild - the previous guy tried to pry the clutch off the crank and took a chip outta the clutch and cracked the oil pump cover ! I saw on here a Bravo 250 engine will run in reverse, may go that route, but the son half of the project wants to drive it - SOON !

Ok gotta another motor for it - now I have 2 clutches to choose from, one is quite a bit larger than the other. Which one should I use. I also seem to be missing the motor mounts, anyone have the measurements for them ??

They are the same diameter and the inboard side is the the same, the outboard sides are quite a bit different. They both are in the parts manual - I guess they just fit different years ! I thought I remember seeing that one was better than the other ?

Sure Dave - it sounds like I can shim the spring on the older clutch, so like keep that one and sell you the gold coloured one - the inboard side has a chip outta the v-pulley for the starter, doesn't seem to affect the operation of it tho !

I bought parts from Steve here, give him a shout.
I have a 1986 G1 that I am parting out. The cart is located in Knoxville, TN and I will help with shipping it as long as you pay the cost. I have pictures so shoot me an email to stephenlkarp@yahoo.com and I can send them to you. Thanks, Stephenskarp Motor has 120# compression!!!! |
