g1 spark plug wire shoking and engine not firing well
i just rebuilt the top portion of my g1 (new piston, cylinder and gaskets) and now it wont start... it tries to start but wont. I am getting plenty of gas through the carb but it will only attempt to fire a little when its fully choked out. i noticed that im getting shocked just by touching the spark plug wire. Could this be leading to a lack of spark and not enough spark to make the engine run? I have not checked the compression but without the spark plug in there seems to be a heck of alot of compression. any ideas anyone? im thinking i need to replace the coil but i want to be sure before i spend $50 dollars

Check the wires coming out the back of the block from the timing unit. I had the same problem and found the wires were shorting and thus causing it to shock the snot out of me!
