Ok I went the relay route. I have never wired a relay so trusting autozone was another headache. I am not great with wiring. Hopefully this is right it is working. I used a test light and checked what had power and what didnt have power with key on. i came to conclusion top prong on switch had power with on and nothing when off. i came out with 2 wires one went to relay number 30 and the other wire went to toggle switch. I used number 86 as ground. I hooked number 85 to other side of toggle switch then number 87 the wire from the lights. I hope this is right not sure but like i said it is working. ......................................

Is there any draw on the battery when the key is off? If not, I'd say it sounds right.

Where did you buy the relay? what did it run you?

Thanks
Tedh

Not wired correctly.....

86 should goto the load on your switch, IE have power when switch is on
85 is supposed to the grounded side
87 wire from there to the light switch
30 12 volt power source, IE either the battery in a 12 volts system(gas) or from a reducer in a 36 or 48 volt cart (electric cart)

Don't use the Key on switch as your source that switch is not rated for the extra load
