Right in the middle of #9 fairway. Running super until then. Was running along then it just died and stopped. Still turned over but would not start and go. Any direction would help? Thanks- Mike

pull the plug check the color
if wet or dry
check if spark or compression
report back results

btw with a 2 stroke anything

OK. I drove back up to the course and tried again to start it. No go. I pulled the plug and it was clean but wet with gas indicating it wasn't getting fire. I could hear both the solenoids clicking in forward and reverse but the engine wouldn't catch and start running. I again pulled the plug, connected it up to the wire and grounded the plug but didn't see any sparking going on so I am guessing I have no fire to the plug. There seemed to be compression as it was blowing gangbusters out the hole where I took the plug out. What next? There is a little cylindrical black thing the plug wire comes out of before runs to the plug attachment. I am guessing it is something like a coil? Could that be my problem? All electrical connections appeared to be solid and I checked the fuse in the black connector on the solenoid side and it appeared to be good. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks - Mike

sounds like you have a lose of spark

the coil that the plug wire is connected to
should get a current from the CDI [black box]
and the CDI box should get a current from the inside the flywheel

if the wires all check good with a continuity tester
remember a G-1 is an older cart now and wires can break inside but look ok outside
see what voltage you get out of the flywheel wires to the CDI
and the volts out of the CDI to the coil

the first thing I would do is try a new spark plug
they are cheap and do sometimes go bad inside
and it is a good idea to have a spare plug

next check wires and connectors and switches
and things like the gas petal off switch by unplugging it

if there is a voltage out of the flywheel wire but not past the CDI to coil
see the china CDI replacement thread a stickie at the top of this yamaha gas board
but make sure the problem is not a wire or connector or switch before
starting to spending on replacing the CDI or coil

btw stock yamaha parts are good but very over priced at 200 vs 20 or less for the china CDI

a common cause is the gas petal switch

there are two one engages the starter when the gas is depressed
and one that stops the spark/motor when you let off the gas petal all the way

My starter engages & turns over the motor but doesn't catch and start. There is gas to the chamber. Where is the switch that stops the spark/motor when you let off the gas petal all the way? I am still assuming it is the igniter that is bad but will check the switch you mentioned before purchasing an igniter.

I think it is the black+white wire on or near the petal assembly bottom side of cart
disconnected the black/white wire
