Default 1984 G1 not running

Here’s the story. My Cart was working fine, had been gettin a little weaker when going up hills and stuff lately but figured that was just from age. If it’s rose for say 4-5 minutes then it will not take off unless you give it a good push. Now here’s the big problem. I rode it to the house everything going fine, went inside, came back out put it in reverse and backed up 10-15ft and then it just stopped running. Switched to forward and still just turns over. Smells flooded so pretty sure it’s getting gas so I’m thinking it’s a spark issue. Replaced the plug already. Was thinking of trying a coil next. Anyone know of a cheaper alternative that will work on these? Other things to check and how to do so? Also any other suggestion/help with any of these issues are greatly appreciated!

First, check all your ground wires, pull your plug wire off of the spark plug and pull your spark plug out stick it back in touch it to the metal on the motor and hit the gas pedal and see if you're getting spark

If you are not getting spark you need to get a test light or a voltmeter and touch it to the orange wire coming out of the CDI box and crank it over and see if you're getting any voltage at all or if the light lights up while it's cranking over if you're getting power to the orange wire than your coil is bad they're $10 on eBay

I forgot to add that I used a test light to try and check the coil. I tried grounding the test light and checking the wire on the coil and nothing lights up. Hooked the test light to the hot side of my battery and touched the ground side AND hot wire of the coil and it lights my test light up. Should the hot wire be getting ground to it? Also none of this changes while turning the motor over. Where all are the ground wires? I know the passenger fender has one checked it and all looks good there. I have checked the plug and I’m not getting any spark.

Unplug this wire ground your test light on the battery and stick the other end on the side of the little black box and crank it over and see if your light lights up

So just touch the test light to the outside of the CDI box? Or which black box are you referring to?

The orange wire coming out of the CDI box, unplug it and touch the orange wire with a test light coming out of the CDI box

Thanks I will try that after work and get back to you! I think I tried that in my scrambling the other day and there was no power. If there is no power there does that mean probably a CDI? Will let you know for sure on that later!
