Default EZGO 36V solenoid is jumped

My 87 EZGO did run forward with A and D jumped on the solenoid (smokes if in reverse). However, now it will not run at all?? New solenoid installed and batteries have good voltage (38+). What can I check and why does it only run with solenoid jumped? thanks

further info, how do I check the microswitches? Seems I'm not getting 36V to the solenoid..... The MS do have continuity, which changes when the FR switch is turned either way. What else can I check? THX

Not sure ..... verify if the micros at the F&R work and if they are pos current? If so you need a constant Neg charge at the other small terminal on the solenoid. It takes a pos and neg of full voltage to operate the solenoid Switch.....
