Newbie G9 mods...
Hello, I just got a 94 G9. It's in pretty rough shape, worn out seat, scuffed up paint, damaged bumpers, but it runs and looks solid, no rust damage underneath.
What should i do first? I plan on removing the govoner and maybe a complete restoration with lift, camo, rear box, gun racks, lights... I own a powdercoater so i can paint all the metal. |

Re: Newbie G9 mods...
Welcome Jon, just start lurking around here. There are many 9's on the site for ideas!
Probably the best advice I could give is start with (here I go again) reading all the Yamaha threads on this site, days of reading. But you will learn so much info. on maint. on what these cars can do, and what very little they can't. You will learn what mods. are good and what aren't, and also where you can save money as well. In the process you will learn how to do maint. properly, and with that, you will have a good running and reliable G9. By the way, G9's are good cars!! Good luck, and enjoy, Mike ps. We would like pictures!! |

G9's are great carts!! I would start with the basics, oil change (one quart only), change rear end gear oil, new spark plug, air filter, fuel filter, belts, check and grease both clutches. I would have all mechanical work done before moving on to the body and accessories. Follow Mike's advice, check out the sticky threads at the top of this section and read as many Yamaha G9 posts as you can, LOTS of good info here. And of course ask questions! |

Re: Newbie G9 mods...
Thanks for the responses. I will ask more specific questions when i get into it. I don't want to be annoying, I used to be way into my 1995 monte carlo and mymonte.com. As you can see my avatar i swapped a L67 into my monte and painted and smoothed the engine bay. It runs mid 12's in the quarter. It's on streetfire.net under jonsmonte.
Anyways, as you can see if i tear into this cart it might just have to go all the way and do it right. For now i will do all the mechanical maintainence and go from there. |
