Default jumped solenoid runs fine

Besides it not being that safe if there anything wrong with keeping my solenoid jumed all the time. Everthing works fine when it is jumped and charges good also. any downfalls if i leave it this way.... its a 1990 medalist I only paid 300 for it that why I ask I dont want to spend a lot of money on it if I can avoid it.. Thanks for your input.

I definitely wouldn't leave it jumped! That is a fire waiting to happen! Any cart shop should have a good used solenoid for $15-20. Have you checked out the activation circuit? You're solenoid may be fine. Remove the 2 small leads and jump from B+ to one side of your solenoid and B- to the other one. If it clicks and the cart moves, the solenoid is Ok.

The cart might or might not move. Depends on what the throttle is telling the controller to do when not depressed.
If cart isn't moving/creeping with throttle up and Solenoid bypassed, it probably won't move when solenoid is energized straight from battery pack.

FYI: The designers had a reason for putting a solenoid in the cart drive circuit.
By bypassing it, you now become the manufacturer of a new drive system, absolving the OEM of all liability and you become solely culpable for all damages should something unfortunate happen.
(IE: Burning down your neighbor's house when your cart catches on fire or innocent bystanders getting showered with acid when the batteries explode.)

I have a used 36 relay you can have for $10 including shipping. But I suggest you verify that it is bad.

I just suggested this as a quick, easy diagnosis of the solenoid. I understood the cart ran fine when the solenoid was jumped. I could be wrong, but I " assumed " that he mean't jumped at the large terminals.

Good point simple man. Not clear which set of terminals are jumped. (BTW - The FYI is for leaving it jumped.)

champ5307, what do you mean when you say your solenoid is jumped?

1. Main terminals the carry high current to controller/motor are jumped.
2. Small terminals are jumped to battery (or other source of B+/B-)

Either way should only be temporary, as in troubleshooting.

No clicking is a symptom you need to find the cause of. If you supply pack voltage to the positive side (small post most likely red wire) and it clicks, then the issue is before the solenoid.
