Careful with the lube, you don't want that lube to get on your sheaves or belts.

Abi ... the spring is a plain galvanized or silver color. I was careful to get the lube on the just sec shaft. Seems Good on hills now if I play the throttle instead of just WOT. Picked up a compression tester today but expect the engine is good and the clutch needs help

That would be the stock spring. Several springs are available to improve things. Time for a call to Don Plowman, he'll help you straighten things out.
