One possibility is to just buy the controller and have it detuned to a safe amperage for the OEM motor. If that doesn’t give you the torque and speed curve you want, then the Visa card will have to come out again to support higher amps.

Guessing you’ll go with Alltrax again, so detuning is possible for your instance. It also sounds like you enjoy more then just plug and play solutions so you can fiddle with it if you go with a new motor.

If your cart has the black AMD/ADC motor on it with the top-hat style speed sensor, which it should since it's an 06, it can handle up to 400 amps of power from an aftermarket controller and generate much more torque than it does now. So you'll have a couple options.

Option A: 400 amp controller, 200 amp solenoid, minimum of 4 gauge cable set

Option B: 500 amp controller (De-tuned to 400 amp output), 400 amp solenoid, minimum of 2 gauge cable set.

Option B would be what you'd want to consider if you ever want to put a more powerful motor on it later. You'd simply have to change the field map in the controller and turn the power output up to 500 amps. Both very easy tasks with an Alltrax XCT controller.

Or if memory serves me doesnt someone sell a kit that uses a bolt through it??

We use 2 gauge welding cable and it fits if you lubricate it. You can use a stud kit with rubber washers and jam nuts as well. Either way works, but if you're making your own wires there's no reason to use a stud kit. Stud kits are quick and convenient when you're selling cable kits to customers who don't have the tools or the ability to make their own cables. Our cable kits include a wire with a completed end and an unfinished end. We provide a "compression terminal" that allows you to thread a new terminal onto a threaded anchor after you've put the wire through the OBC. There are several ways to do it. There's not a right or a wrong way. It's just whatever you choose. But it's crucial that the wire goes through the hole in the OBC and it's equally important that you don't drill out the opening to make it fit, as that will render the OBC ruined and useless.
