New battery design help
Hi all,
I am assuming this is the right category to put this in but here it goes. I am part of a team developing a low cost lithium battery for the golf cart industry. I know that there are a lot of offers out there but I would like to get potential customers opinions on what you would like to see from this if it comes to market. Currently we are looking at these features: - 48 volt system. - 1/3rd of the weight of a normal lead acid battery pack - 40Ah battery (25 mile range fully loaded) - 3,000 cycles = 10 year battery life - Maintenance free. - Special protection and charge circuit - This gives the ability to use any 'dumb' charger available on the pack thus reducing cost. We should be able to get this on the market for around twice the price of a lead acid pack, with the 10 year lifetime this should make the new battery cost competitive. Please tell me what you think; what pro's and con's you have; what your concerns will be. Thanks for your help and I will keep you all updated! Leigh. |

Re: New battery design help
The 80ah lithium packs i have built are comparable in range to a T-1275 48v pack (150ah @ 20hr, pretty low in the golfcart world), i feel that a 40ah pack will be too small.

Re: New battery design help
The 40ah pack has been tested at a range of 26 miles per charge with two people and gear on board, we run these at a slightly higher voltage so there is a higher wattage than normal 48v systems.
We are also aiming to do a 60ah pack but these will be around $400 more. What is your typical range between charges then? for golf clubs who use a few of our packs we are going to offer an optional external charger that can charge the pack in 10 minutes for half the range (one 18 hole round of golf). Re: New battery design help
Yes, The unit itself will be sealed and IP rated so it will be suitable for all weather applications.
I am just looking for suggestions to what yourselves and the golf cart community are looking for when it comes to batteries? Thanks, Leigh |

Re: New battery design help
It would be nice to see a few people not related use these to test them out, seems like not enough power these guys are used to. Also twice the price is not cost effective, I can just buy a more powerful pack for half the price and taken care of my two pacs they will out last your ten years for the same price.

Re: New battery design help
Maybe team up with someone like ScottyB(Carts Unlimited),who has a reputabl, busy, shop, catering to electric carts and run a test-program thru him and get some real-world feedback from sources other than golf-courses.A 6month,or even a year of testing could be worth hundreds,if not thousands of sales later in my opinion.
