Not to mention half the battery life if you're real lucky!

As mentioned before, just modify the wiring at the #3 microswitch for 1/2 speed, Look at the diagram in the stickies:
http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/elect...tml#post928662

Use a SPDT switch wired as follows:
Center (common) pin goes to the limit switch where the white wire was connected.
Side-1 of the switch goes to the white wire in harness.
Side-2 goes to the limit switch where the resistor/black wire is plugged.
You would then have:
Position-1: Normal Use
Position-2: Always half-speed.

I think half speed may be too slow......i would put an adjustable bumper (like the front leg on a washing machine) to get the right speed.....or just demand they slow down or put it up.....

quote KGSC Having the voltage would pretty much double the current and
melt most of the cables.

motor resistance (what ever it is) I will use .5
half voltage 24vdc
full voltage 48vdc

Amps = Resistance X Voltage (yes we all know the amps used changes but will change equally for both).

.5R X 48Vdc = 24amps at 48 volts this is 1152 watts

.5R X 24Vdc = 12amps at 24 volts this is 576 watts

So now I need to know how you three came up with your figures?
convince me! we all know you just can't put 48 volts on a 36 volt cart and this is why you will draw more current with more voltage not the opposite.

as for my answer
Quote:
.half the batteries pulling the same weight = half the run time
can't give you figures but common sense tells you that if you use 48v to pull 800lbs you can travel x miles
24v would be half as far and discharge would be 2x greater than 48v
other wise you could just use a 12v battery in carts

Ah maybe you did not get what I ment you still have six batteries just now three are hooked in parallel with the other three so even using your logic it would be equal runtime.

Greg-g,

On my answer, you're forgetting about charging. If you half the battery pack you're now charging 2 SEPARATE 24 Volt battery packs with a 48 Volt charger which will over charge the batteries and melt the lead plates inside the battery.
