1985 gas clubcar - motor swap?
My old flat head KF82 needs a crank. It had no exhaust on it when I Bought it. I put new piston, valves basically new top end. Now when I finally put an exhaust on it. (stock Yamaha street bike pipe with baffles welded in). I could hear the dreaded knock. So kind of wanna know what Im up against if I try to fire a bigger shaft motor on the thing. I believe the old KF ran counter clockwise. Would I have to flip the axle around or what not? Would like to keep the stock transaxle. Maybe put a different CVT type trans in if I have to. Im very mechanically inclined and have done a street bike swap in my old clubcar caroche quite a few years back. So thats no issue. I just wanted a stock cart for daily summer driving. but guess that might not be in the picture. So any advice or pointing me to a good topic would be awesome. Thanks.

One option would be to call Vegascarts and see if they have a direct bolt in swap. They do swaps on several engines for most carts. Springbok was selling a whole VC clone swap kit on here which I bumped.

thanks for the reply. Im looking more for ideas for home fabrication ideas. I could have my old motor going for around 600. So i would want to keep the budget under that if im going to swap it out.

Re: 1985 gas clubcar - motor swap?
Predator swap wouldn't be too hard.
Majority of small engines run counter clockwise on the business end, so you don't have to worry about anything other than getting the clutch to fit. Usually that takes some customizing and a commonly available bushing to match the taper for the clutch. Other clutches will fit without doing any work, but are usually pretty pricey. Search around here for Clone swap threads, there is a ton of info on any kind of swap you want to do. |
