Re: Sputtering after long ride
No harm in checking to see if the spark plug is fouled!

Re: Sputtering after long ride
Indeed! pull the float bowl off of the bottom of carb...if there is trash in the system you should see it immediately in the bottom of the bowl...always a good thing to clean up from time to time regardless ;)

Re: Sputtering after long ride
I've never done one with the carb still on the engine, but, I guess it could be done.
Key off, set park brake, disconnect battery, turn off the fuel shut off on the tank. (if you have a tank shut off) Disconnect the air tube from the air filter box at the carb, Clean carb well with spray carb cleaner, then disconnect the fuel line at the carb and plug it. #12 is the bowl drain, loosen, and remove it to drain the remaining fuel in the bowl, then reinstall when finished. Use a sharpie, or scratch-awl and mark a line on the carb body and bowl and use that line for proper reassembly! #10 is the bowl retaining bolt, Loosen, and slowly remove the bolt. you may need to lightly tap the bowl with a screw driver handle to loosen it from the body, once loose from the body, gently lower it away from the float, then inspect and clean the bowl as needed. DO NOT play with the float! the retaining pin (#8 ) slides out very easily, and can be lost, and the spring on the needle valve is very fragile! if ether gets lost or damaged, you'll need to buy a new carb. You can "try" to spray carb cleaner "up into" the main jet #6 & #14, BUT... wear safety goggles! (preferably a full face shield) before you even think about attempting that! Carefully reassemble using the sharpie line on the bowl, and do a thorough inspection for fuel leaks! |

Re: Sputtering after long ride
Yes its def easier with carb off...You shouldn't need a kit to just clean it out.

Re: Sputtering after long ride
Ok, finally got chance for progress.
Took of float chamber, was filthy. Cleaned up as good as new with carb cleaner. Put back on. Halfway around block, same problem, and now backfiring as well. Cart runs at slower speeds, only dies out when pedal all the way down . I took of fuel line, has gas spurting out. Not sure how much I am supposed to expect coming out, Is this still a carb issues? Cart runs if Im only at half pedal. |
