Default 01 Ezgo Workhorse not wanting to start

I just picked up a Ezgo Workhorse that tries to start but will not fire up everytime. The starter motor turns over like it should. If you get lucky and it does start it will run until you let off the gas. The guy I purchased it from says he changed the fuel pump, carb and spark plugs.

Not sure where to start as I haven't worked on these gas carts in the past. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Also the fuel filter bulb is less then half full of fuel.

Normal on the filter..

All golf carts die when you let off the gas (if that's what you mean)

might try adjusting the valve lifters, seems to be a problem with
these little motors also see what the compression is.

Compression is 175 in each cylinder. With that compression is it still possible the valves are out of adjustment?

It starts out sluggish but once it gets going it runs good until you let off again.

Well you must be getting gas. I'd adjust the valves, not that it would fix it but then you would know, 10 minute job, bet I could do it in 5.

don't even need a gasket (0 ring)

Valves needed adjusted, gas tank full of water and new carb needed cleaned. Now to fix the spindle I broke while pushing it up on the trailer so we can test drive it.
