48v to 12v draw
My reducer states it draws No-load input current: ≤10mA . How long will that take to run my battery pack down? Is that to much and should I put a switch to kill it?
Attached is the reducer I bought. It is a 20amp 12.24 v output. |

Yes all these devices should have a built in relay or you need to but an external relay on it. Google around the site, you'll find lots of info on this question.

I would leave it alone, only add a relay to the 12v side if You want all 12v accessories to turn OFF when the key switch is OFF.
The issue with most of those chinese devices is that switching the +48v input with a relay puts too much stress on the electronics. Placing a 0.01AH (10ma) load for one week will discharge less than 1% of a typical 170AH pack, that is far less than self-discharge. You can add a toggle switch or just remove the fuse for long term storage. |

I wired my cheap reducer after the light switch. Turn on the light switch and the reducer comes on and provides 12v to anything connected.
I don't use the lights that often, so this made sense for me to ensure no parasitic draw from the reducer. |

my cart is 48 volts at the light switch. I let it sit for 2 days off charge and the voltage on the pack was 51.1 volts and the reducer was cool. Maybe it is fine like it is. I don't think the inrush of power is good for it over and over.
