Default 1996 EZ-GO TXT - Dead spot in steering, repair example

1996 EZ-GO TXT DCS
I bought it 2 years ago as a project cart and have replaced or touched almost everything on this thing. I was putting off fixing the dead spot in the steering just because I knew it was gonna be a bitch. Now that I've finally done it, I can say I was right.

We've got a rather large local dealer that has an excellent parts and repair staff that has given me the exact answers and tips I needed when purchasing parts every time I replaced something. Well, before fixing the steering I wasn't sure if it was the rack or the pinion gear, or both. But the main service tech there told me in his +25 years in fixing EZ-GO carts, he's never replaced a pinion gear. The rack is the part that's always worn. I gotta say he was dead on. Rack cost me $75.00 but was well worth it considering the advice that came with it. Steering is all fixed now!!

i did the same thing on a 97 a few years ago, someone on this site gave same advice re: replace the rack, not the gear. I didn't think it was too difficult, just like everything take your time!! Results were definitely worth it!!!
