As compression is only measured between the piston and the top of the cylinder I am not sure if bad reeds can impact it.
Just a thought but check to make sure your compression tester is working right. Those wear out, especially the cheaper ones. I recently tore a quad apart twice looking for compression loss. It ended being a faulty compression tester. I posted here about it and I was surprised by how many people had similar experiences. Also, did you torque your head bolts to spec (they are not all the same) and follow the pattern that is outlined in the manual? |

Bad valves in any engine can impact compression. If the reeds leak before the piston travels up far enough to seal off the ports then compression will be low. On a 4-cycle engine, if the intake valve fails to open (but seals good) you will have 0 psi compression on that cylinder and a leak down test will find no leaks. Kinda tricky.
