Re: 36v to12v converter issues and questions
Why are you taking the fuse out? Is it one of those boxes that light up when a fuse blows?
What are you using for a common negative? Describe that fuse panel, can't tell fom the photos what type it is. |

It's hard to tell in the picture but is your negative lead touching the chassis?
If so it should not. |

Re: 36v to12v converter issues and questions
In the photos you are putting your black meter wire to the frame of the cart. That is your problem.
On an electric golf cart you NEVER use the cart frame for negative or ground point if you have any wires connected to the frame of the cart, remove them. Hook them to pack negative if they are for the 36 volt or reducer negative if they are for lights, radio etc. 36 volts is enough to Kill. That is the reason to keep the frame isolated. |

Re: 36v to12v converter issues and questions
I don't think we have any problem here, if You look closely, he is touching only the bare copper at the end of the black wire.
I think Mooncarter has the right idea, it is probably a fuse block with a blown fuse indicator so without the fuse inserted he is actually measuring the 12v voltage after the LED and resistor voltage drop which is likely 10v. |

Re: 36v to12v converter issues and questions
As Sergio said, The voltage you’re getting there (w fuse removed) is coming from the LED indicator circuit in the fuse block. That’s coming through the indicator LED which is why you’re seeing the drop.
Test voltage at the power wire coming into the fuse block from your converter. You should have 12v+. Do this test with lights and radio On if you can, and make sure the voltage stays above 12v. As long as it stays above 12v, I would say the converter is working properly. |

Re: 36v to12v converter issues and questions
Awesome! So as long as I don't have a significant voltage drop with both the radio and lights on, the converter is working correctly.
Thanks to everyone for their help. I never considered the indicator light on the fuse block as part of what was feeding voltage. Glad to know I have a great resource here on this forum. I'll do these checks tonight and post back if I find any issues. Thanks again to everyone for their patience and helping me find the answer!! |
