Big wire to FNR lever came lose, cart won't move
So I was using my 1992 36v EZ GO Marathon to spray for mold on pipelines at work. About 30 minutes into it I started to smell something burning then the cart stopped moving. I turned the cart off and lifted the seat to see that the big wire from the controller to the FNR level had came lose from the ring terminal inside of the shrink wrapped soldiered connection. The shrink wrap material is what was smoking. I pushed it back into the warehouse, disconnected the battery pack, and removed the ring terminal/ broken connection from the FNR switch. The terminal was not crimped (only soldiered) so I was able to clean it up and crimp in back into the ring terminal. I hooked everything back up and the cart still won't move. The battery gauge is reading full power and the solenoid is clicking. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated before I make a mess out of it.
Thanks- Steve |

Most likely the F&R has melted down. Extended slow operation can generate excessive heat in the F&R switch. See examples attached

Re: Big wire to FNR lever came lose, cart won't move
For a short term fix, if you know how to read a wiring diagram, you can wire it up without the FNR switch, and only have it go forward (or reverse). That might be acceptable for a few days until you can replace the FNR. I'd buy a HD one, and check all cables and terminals for similar problems, as any loose connection = heat, especially when creeping at slow speed for extended periods.
