EZGO brush question.
Hey Guys
I am putting together a 2002 36V series cart. New body etc. I rewired and upgraded the cables, solenoid and the FR switch with plans to upgrade the controller and motor later. In the meantime I figured I would give the stock motor a quick go through and cleaning. When I got down to the brushes I found them worn to 15.8mm. Discard is 16 and new is 33mm. New brushes should arrive tommorrow. When i checked the commutator I noticed 2 grooves with corrosponding marks in the brushes. These grooves are evenly spaced apart from centerline are about as deep as the undercuts between the segments almost as if they were purposely put there. Is this something done to stabilize the brushes or something ? Or do I have the most even scores from something foreign sawing through at some point in this motors life. That would be my luck...lol Thanks in advance... |

Re: EZGO brush question.
From what you say..the commutator has to be sandstoned down to even...then the mica between the segments has to be undercut...personally I would take the motor to a repair shop if you don't have the facilities to do this...grooves can appear on the commutator when the brushes pick up a piece of copper from the commutator and grind into it...good luck
