New reversing contactor only working in forward
I got a reversing contactor (DC182) and installed it. (this is in an ezgo txt 36v with a stock controller, I removed the old forward/reverse lever).
I do not get the motor spinning in reverse, only forward. I can hear the solenoids clicking when I flip the engagement. The main solenoid clicks when the pedal is pressed. When in reverse mode there is some electromagnetic interference when the motor does not engage that makes the radio go fuzzy. This is how I wired it: Here's the status of my testing while engaging each solenoid. With the S1 side solenoid engaged: -no continuity between A1/A2 and S1 -continuity between A1/A2 and S2 -no continuity between A1/A2 and B+ -no continuity bteween S1 and S2 -continuity between B+ and S1 -no continuity between B+ and S2 With the S2 side solenoid engaged: -continuity between all lugs (S1, S2, B+ and the A1/A2 lug) With no solenoids engaged: -no continuity between A1/A2 and B+ -continuity between A1/A2 and S1 -continuity between A1/A2 and S2 -continuity between S1 and S2 -no continuity between S1 and B+ -no continuity between S2 and B+ Is this reversing contactor working correctly? I think it is. It has to be the wiring. I tried swapping B+ and A1 since I found another diagram searching this site. Most of the diagrams are using aftermarket Alltrax controllers and heavy duty solenoids (mine is White Rodgers 70-120224) so the schematics don't match up exactly to my setup. I'm hoping it's just a wiring issue I can correct. Appreciate any thoughts, help or suggestions of what to do next. Thanks. |

Re: New reversing contactor only working in forward
I figured out the problem. It stemmed from my labeling the old f/w switch as 12, 3, 6, 9 and then translating that to A1, S2, S1, B+ based on a diagram I found. Once I traced the wires back to the motor I found that one of the field wires and one of the armature wires were wrong. It all makes sense now.
I think the lesson is to label the wires yourself and make sure they're right before you start this job. |

Jtap, just to finish up could you post an updated pic of your wire layout on the contactor?
