Default Marathon 2 Stroke Oil Ratio

Disconnected the oil injection system and was wondering what everybody on here thats done it runs for thier oil ratio. I remember reading 148: 1 or an ounce per gallon, that sound right?

Factory spec is 128:1, which works out exactly to 1oz/gal. If it's a new motor (or a new rebuild, anyhow) they recommend 40:1 for the first tank of fuel, then 128:1 after that

It all depends on the oil you buy doesn't it? one ounce of 40:1 oil will not give the same results as one ounce of 50:1 oil. I always look at the mixing instructions on the back of the oil to know how much to give me the 128:1 ratio.

I run 128:1 in mine..plug stays clean and engine keeps purring along. Mine does 5 mile jaunts every time it runs..no less and I run it between 3700 and 4000 consistently.

IMO, Pretty much any good air cooled 2-cycle oil will be fine.

No, two cycle oil is oil. There is no such thing as 40:1 or 50:1 oil, those are just the mixing ratios. There are 128 fluid ounces to a gallon so to mix a ratio of 128:1 you would add one ounce of oil to a gallon of gasoline. Similarly if your engine called for a 40:1 ratio (as does my chainsaw) you would mix 3 ounces to a gallon of gas.

As a slight aside it is not recommended to add oil directly to your fuel tank and then pour in the gasoline. You should mix it in a separate container and shake vigorously to mix the gasoil. If you ever look into an empty tank where the owner has over the years simply poured the oil into the tank you will see a nasty tar like mess in the bottom. This is the oil that never mixed with the gasoline.

and mine Dale. When I rebuilt the cart the gas tank looked like the Exxon Valdez in there. Took me an evening to scrub it out and I never got it completely clean.

I went nuts with everything from sloshing a bunch of stainless nuts around in there, to several implements of destruction taped to sticks (which is how i actually scraped loose the bulk of it) - and same here, there are still a few ugly spots that I just couldn't reach or completely break up !!!
