G1 new rings = low compression
I did a compression test and only had 30psi. Replaced cylinder, piston and rings, and still only have about 30 psi. I thought my seals may be bad but when I plug the sparkplug hole you can't hear any air coming from around the seals. Anyone have any ideas....I am dumbfounded!

Re: G1 new rings = low compression
Did you replace the head gasket when you replaced the cylinder? With a new jug and piston, it's pretty hard to have low compression even with bad crank seals. Did you check the head for cracks?

Brand new gaskets. I can't figure it out either. I even thought I may have put the piston in backwards and double checked to make sure.

Re: G1 new rings = low compression
Did you check compression with the throttle wide open? Also a bent connecting rod will give you low compression. Hope this is not your case. Ring gaps staggered?

Re: G1 new rings = low compression
Are your reeds closing? Can you feel backpressure in the carb inlet when you crank the motor?

Re: G1 new rings = low compression
I'll have to check that in the morning its dark now.
The cart ran great then started smoking really bad. Then would not start. I took the jug off and found both rings mostly missing. I figured that replacing the whole top end would be simple and fast but now it has me stumped. |

Re: G1 new rings = low compression
Compression tested with throttle wide open, rod straight, rings aligned with pins.

Re: G1 new rings = low compression
Hey just a guess but did you check your exhaust??
It may be plugged . Perhaps you should try the sticky on G1 muffler bbq. if its plugged it wont breathe and could lower your compression. Good luck . Tom |
