Default How to remove cupholders on a TXT

I want to install a new stereo in the cupholder area of a '99 TXT and read the wiring can be readily accessed if I remove the cupholders. I tried prying up carefully in the slot about an 1" down from the top of the holder with a large flat blade screw driver. I can get a little verticle movement but the assembly doesn't seem to want to break free. I stopped because I didn't want to mark it up.

Is there a secret to getting this out? Thanks

Mark

Keep doing what your doing. I think if you look at the seam from the cart floor you can see some openings and start prying up. It was scary the first time i did it also. It is still really tuff to wire your stereo threw that opening.

Two words: Heat Gun (hair dryer)

OK, that's 4 words and some punctuation, but the point is, get it warmed up and it will work easier for ya.

I use the biggest screwdriver I can find, put the blade in the hole at the bottom of the cup holder, one on each side. Lean them both back at once and then give one of them a little heave. It should pop that side out of the front clip. Now do the other side and finish wrestling it out of there. It is tougher plastic than you think, I have never broken one this way....& they all come out.
Note you can sand down the clips to make it easier to remove later if you wish.

Thanks for the words of encouragement and removal techniques. I think I will also heat it up a bit as Gornoman suggested since it was fairly cold in the garage last time I attempted this.

I appreciate the help guys.
