The Reed switch is call an ignition interlock on the schematic. It is in the cart's charger receptacle.
Here's a picture with cover off. Should have B+ on small wire, if not jumper it to B+ on battery pack or some convenient location.
(All Reed switch does is prevents cart from being driven away when charger is plugged in. EZGO had so many problems with it, they bypassed it in later carts)

In a DCS cart, the controller activates solenoid by supplying B- via Pin-7. (Blue line on schematic)
Of course, B+ has to be on other side of solenoid coil via the Reed switch, Run/Tow switch, F/R switch and key switch.
And B+ also has to be applied to Pins 5, 6, 9 & 10 to get controller to turn on Pin-7.

ok , looked at the 4 prong for the tow/run and the pins were pulled out from hanging over the side while trouble shooting. the wheels started to move but makes a clicking sound and won't go in reverse, are my batteries toast? they are 09 models, charge to 37.8 volts. the guy said only reverse worked, I'm suspecting the controller was bad before he rigged the FnR before I bought it

Having only one direction is a typical controller failure for this drive system. If you have checked everything and the cart only goes F or R then it is likely a bad controller like you were told.

From what I understand, a DCS cart with an aftermarket controller, solenoid and heavy gauge cables makes a pretty wicked machine.

Just curious, if the back up horn is disconnected would that take out reverse?

No, it shouldn't at least.

The reverse beeper gets B+ directly from the battery side of the solenoid's main contacts and B- is supplied via Controller Pin-4 when B+ is applied to Pin-3.

Applying B+ to Pin-3 also tell controller to reverse the current flow between F1 and F2, which make motor spin in opposite direction, but I believe those are independent functions.

If the cart still goes forward even though you've got B+ on Pin-3, the controller is sick.

The DCS drive cart with a 4-500 amp aftermarket control and Good cables is a series cart on steroids

The stock DCS control has no low voltage protection. As we know, operating with low voltage (ie: bad battery or just run down too far) increases the amperage draw & more amperage means more heat = burnt up controller components = kaput!
All of this is avoided with the Alltrax DCX control and in the stock PDS system which followed the DCS. Hope this helps
