Default 1996 g16a no spark

Im new to all this cart stuff so all help would be appriciated...
I have a 96 g16a.. last sat night i was driving around and the cart just died. i checked fuel and oil and was all good. started checking fues and positive wires had power to everything so started to check grounds. found out i had lost ground somewhere. as a temp fix i ran a ground wire from bat neg to the valve cover and everything worked fine. Here is where i am baffled... i got home and ran a different ground wire since the temp fix was speaker wire ( all i had at the time) i ran 2 new grounds 1 to the chasis by the silinoid next to the old ground and another from bat to the engine. After i did this the engine woyld turn over but no spark. i noticed the 10a fuse blew.. replaced fuse with another 10a remived the groynd wires i just installed and regrounded back to valve cover and still no spark... cart is bobe stock except headlights n tail lights added lights are grounded to frame. i read that they shoukd be grounded to battery but everything worked fine until i ran the 2 new grounds. i an lost on what to do now... id just take it in to a shop and have it fixed but i cant afford that.HELP!

This is good case of "if it aint broke, don't fix it" !! I would start by disconnecting all of the "added grounds" and also the chassis grounded headlight/taillight wires. Install a good 10 A. fuse, and it should be back to where it was. The 10 A. fuse connects the carts control system gnd. (which is also the chassis) to the "battery minus " so whenever you connect accessories between battery plus and the chassis the additional current causes the 10 amp fuse to blow. The cart's control system will not operate with a blown 10A. fuse (because it lost its return to bat. minus. When you reconnect your lights, connect the ground side of all lights to battery minus and not the chassis. I'm not sure why Yamaha chose to fuse these golf cars this way , but they did! They are not the same as automotive wiring, where everything connects to ground and fuses are placed in the positive supply. Hope this helps - RAY

Removed light grounds from frame and ran to bat negitive...removed other 2 groynds and only ran 1 extra to valve cover bolt where i had speaker wire before... found a loose conection for a relay fixed that and everything back to normal again.... runs like a top... now once i get alittle more fimilliar with these carts i can do something about the govorner.....but thats a different day sometime down the road

Good deal - glad you got it sorted out. The governor nut is really easy. Take careful note where it is now, then tighten the nut down and take it for a ride. If not happy with the results, you just put it back where it was. - RAY

PS - Just out of curiosity, what is the purpose of the wire you ran to the valve cover . ?? (Is that wired from frame to valve cover or bat. minus to valve cover?) If from bat. minus, you are shorting out the 10 A. fuse and now don't have fuse protection for the control circuitry. This will cause smoking wires if you ever have a fault.

It is ran from bat negitive to valve cover.... without that wire the motor wouldnt even turn over. Any ideas why that would be?

There is a very good chance that either your 10 A. fuse is blown or defective, or you have an open circuit in the two wires coming from the fuse. That wire you have in there now is basically taking the place of your 10 A. fuse & like I said previously, any fault in the control circuit will result in smoking wires . You definitely don't want that wire in there. Remove the wire and try replacing the 10 A fuse. If that doesn't help, look for an open circuit somewhere in the two wires that go to the fuse. (one wire should have continuity to bat. minus and the other wire should have continuity to the cart frame. Good luck & post results - RAY
