90 marathon pg3 low on power
I have recently bought a 1990 marathon with the pg3 motor in it. This cart really struggles going up hills, but according to guy I got it from he has rebuilt the motor already. I haven't checked compresssion yet, but the belt is new and the clutches are in good working order. The cart has 12 inch tires and 6in lift kit in it. I have been told the high torque spring in the driven clutch should help that problem out alot. It goes down hills like a raped ape, does so so on flat ground but just struggles on hills. It has brand new carb and fuel pump also.
I'm not really looking for alot more top end speed, just mainly more power out of the gate and up hills or when it has to work a little bit. What are everybody's thoughts? The cart is beautiful and been restored, just need to get power a bit higher now. Let me know your thoughts please. THANKS |

Re: 90 marathon pg3 low on power
If the cart is still stock, the torque spring will help out alot. If it has been modified(clutch springs, weights, etc), it could be a few other things depending on what was changed. Check compression first.

Re: 90 marathon pg3 low on power
I believe everything is still stock on the cart. I will get the new spring in this weekend and see how it works. I also go a compression tester to test that, but maybe somebody could give me an idea on the process for checking compression after its hooked up. Thanks for all advice.
