Sounds like one (or more) sluggish microswitches.

The solenoid activation circuit has two microswitches whose NC (Normally Closed) contacts have to close to energize the solenoid.
MS-2 and MS-3 on attached schematic with solenoid activation circuit highlighted.
MS-2 on the F/R assembly is the most likely suspect.

Attached is a cutaway of a microswitch showing the miniscule spring that closes the NC contacts when the level arm is released.
It doesn't take much gunk to stop it from doing its job.

Thx for replies! I'll ck out micro switches. I have a problem now also with my wife's Stealth 64v Commander, and I have no wiring diagram to begin troubleshooting! Anyone know about the Stealths? Only clicks when you accelerate, no movement.

I would guess the key switch has some sort of problem too. I would make some measurements at the solenoid coil and contacts. The solenoid has to be making connection somehow to get power to the motor. Anyway this is where I would start troubleshooting if it were my cart.

I melted two stock solenoids on a 1998 stock series, and it became intermittent. I guess it's possible the solenoid can be sticking to the plastic contact holders without truly being welded? Doesn't explain all of the problems though.
